Dr. Cook has had a distinguished career
of involvement in health policy and
management, health promotion, disease
prevention and health services research.
His work for a wide variety of Federal
and State agencies, corporations and
community-based organizations throughout
the United States has included coalition
and capacity building, infrastructure
development, social marketing, and
program implementation.
Dr.
Cook served as Director of Faith-Based
Health Initiatives of Greater Pittsburgh.
For several years, he served as Senior
Advisor for Tennessee State Senator
Roscoe Dixon and was responsible for
planning Annual Health and Wellness
Conferences with the African Diplomatic
Corps and the Pan African HIV/AIDS
Summit. His work in Tennessee also
included work for the Nashville Mental
Health Association, Tennessee Voices
for Children founded by Tipper Gore,
Meharry Medical College Cancer Awareness
Program, the Geriatric Education Program
and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
Dr.
Cook is an expert on the subject of
the role of the faith community in
fostering health promotion, disease
management and disease prevention
and has presented on numerous occasions
in forums sponsored by the Federal
Bureau of Primary Healthcare, HRSA,
Center for Disease Control, National
Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and
the Healthy People 2000 Review Committee
on Cardiovascular Disease. He was
selected to be on the Planning Committee
of the 2001-2002 National Faith-Health
Leadership Forum.
Dr.
Cook is a graduate of Fisk University
with a B.A. in Biology. His impressive
educational credentials include a
Master of Science from the University
of Cincinnati with an emphasis in
Radiology Administration and Public
Health, Master in Public Administration
from the University of Tennessee,
Doctor of Science Degree from Johns
Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public
Health, Doctor of Ministry from United
Theological Seminary, and Master of
Divinity Degree from Vanderbilt University,
School of Divinity. His doctoral dissertation
was entitled: “Congregational Health
Status Analysis: A New Model of Ministry
for Pastoral Care.”
He
is published in the Journal of
Health Care for the Poor and Underserved.
